Garden Room - Big Question - Term 1.1 - What Do I Know About Me? - End of Term Summary -25/26
This past half-term has been a delightful journey of self-discovery, guided by our "Big Question": "What do I know about me?"
It's been incredibly heartening to see the children flourish as they've engaged in activities and discussions centred around themselves, their loved ones, and what makes each of them special. They've explored their individual likes and dislikes, recognised their similarities, and celebrated their differences, all contributing to a vibrant sense of belonging within our Sandy Lane family. We've shared stories about our families, our homes, beloved pets, and cherished toys and colours.
Learning our "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" rhyme was a particular hit, helping us playfully name and identify our body parts. With mirrors in hand, the children created fantastic self-portraits, focusing on capturing lots of detail, and imaginatively crafted transient art faces using a variety of loose parts. We even turned detective, examining our unique hand and fingerprints and discussing how these patterns make each of us distinct, before immortalising them with paint on large paper.
A special thank you to the families who completed home learning about themselves – these contributions were invaluable and a proud moment for the children to share!
As a result of their explorations, the children now confidently articulate details about themselves and their families. They demonstrate a truly secure sense of belonging in our Nursery, speak positively about their own identities, and show a wonderful, increased understanding of the rich tapestry of similarities and differences among their friends.
