Welcome to Rainbow Room! We are Sandy Lane’s designated provision for children with a range of complex and additional learning needs, between the ages of two and four years. Children who attend Rainbow Room have been referred from the Child Development Centre to our Outreach team.
Our sensory-stimulating environment is accessible by all children, and is carefully tailored to meet the needs of each individual child. Our small ratios, and highly skilled and experienced staff enable us to support children in meeting milestones through magical, hands-on experiences. Every child’s voice is valued, and they are encouraged to communicate in their own way using Makaton, PECs and other appropriate strategies.
We work extremely closely with parents, carers, and other professionals such as paediatricians and Speech and Language Therapists to provide appropriate, individualised plans for each child.
Our children access a range of experiences including daily visits to our sensory room, playcourt, sensory cooking, tac-pac, and Teachh.
Here in Rainbow Room we take great pride in the progress that we support our children in making, academically, socially and emotionally.
This term the children have been regularly supported to explore our provocation table, inspiring their imaginations and developing new skills-this has led onto sensory cooking sessions, where we use the provocation ingredients and a variety of utensils… this has proven popular at snack time, when the children eat the end product!
We have introduced Sensory Circuit into our daily routine which creates calming 1:1 Support through the use of physical activities, sensory experiences and deep pressure techniques that help the children to feel relaxed, content and focused, ready for the day ahead. We have also embraced our time in Forest School, enjoying our natural surroundings and taking risks outdoors to develop our confidence and gross motor skills.
There have been some amazing trips this term including: our outing to West Vale Care Home where the children could get into the festive spirit with some of the residents, we have eaten a lovely Christmas dinner at the local community café, some of our children were able to pick out our Rainbow Room Christmas Tree from Trebaron Garden Centre, and all of our Rainbow families came to CAFT for the Christmas Party Extravaganza!
Thankyou to all of our children and their families for a wonderful term filled with happiness, incredible achievements and lots of fun!
