Garden Room- Big Question - Term 2.2 - How do we know its Spring? End of Term Summary 25/26
This half term, our big question has been “How do we know it’s Spring?” The children began by sharing their ideas and creating mind maps in their family groups, which we revisited at the end to see how their understanding had grown. Throughout the term, we explored the season using the book Spring by Emily Dufresne, learned Spring-themed Makaton signs, and discussed baby animals such as lambs and ducklings. The children created Spring artwork, explored how flowers grow, and talked about changes in the weather, as well as learning about celebrations like Mother’s Day and Easter. In Forest School, they investigated nests and took part in a Spring hunt, observing changes in the environment over time. We also planted seeds and potatoes, helping the children understand growth and new life. A highlight of the term was watching real eggs hatch into ducklings, which sparked excitement, curiosity, and thoughtful discussions. By the end of the half term, the children were able to confidently talk about the signs of Spring and explain how animals hatch from eggs, showing a deeper understanding of the world around them.
