Garden Room- End of Term Summary - Term 1.2 -Why Are There So Many Leaves On The Ground? 23/24

The children have been very busy this term learning all about the season 'autumn'. We have been exploring our big question:

Why are there so many leaves on the ground?

The children have developed new vocabulary and have learnt some new Makaton signs.

We have spent time looking at books to support learning and created mind maps to collect evidence of leaning, adding to these as we found out new information.

We have been on autumn walks in the forest and hunted for autumnal objects, we have used marks to represent items found and brought items back to explore in class. The children used leaves to explore autumn colours and colour mixing as well as creating leaf rubbings, looking at the different shapes and sizes and looking at the details and veins within each leaf.

We thought about woodland animals and animals that hibernate. We used our cooking and baking skills to make autumn vegetable soup and hedgehog bread rolls.

We have read many books including ‘Herbie’s Big Adventure’ and ‘Squirrels Autumn Search’. These have supported learning and helped children to apply new learning through story!
