Sunshine Room - Big Question - Term 1.1 - What Do I Know About Me? - End of Term Summary -25/26

This half-term, our children have enjoyed a meaningful journey of self-discovery through our Big Question, “What do I know about me?” It has been a joy to watch them grow in confidence as they explored who they are, the people who are important to them, and what makes each of them unique.

Through thoughtful discussions and engaging activities, the children shared their likes and dislikes, discovered similarities with their peers, and celebrated differences, helping to strengthen a strong sense of belonging within our Sandy Lane family. They enjoyed talking about their families, homes, pets, favourite toys, and colours, building meaningful connections with one another.

Learning the “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” rhyme was a particular highlight, supporting the children in naming and identifying different parts of their bodies in a fun and active way. Using mirrors, they created detailed self-portraits and explored their creativity further by designing transient art faces using a variety of loose parts.

The children also became little detectives as they examined their handprints and fingerprints, learning that these patterns are unique to each person. They proudly captured their discoveries using paint on large sheets of paper.

As a result of these experiences, the children now confidently talk about themselves and their families, show a secure sense of belonging within Nursery, and speak positively about their own identities. They also demonstrate a growing understanding and appreciation of both the similarities and differences that make our school community so special.
