Sunshine Room - Big Question - Term 1.2 - Why are there so many leaves on the ground? 25/26

This half-term, the children will be exploring the magic of autumn through our Big Question, “Why are there so many leaves on the ground?”

During Hello time, the children will begin by sharing what they already know about autumn and discovering where the colourful fallen leaves come from. They will investigate how trees change during this season, identify the rich autumn colours such as orange, yellow, red, and brown, and learn why some animals sleep during the autumn months. We will also talk about how people prepare for cooler weather.

The children will enjoy a range of hands-on activities using leaves, including creating artwork, experimenting with leaf printing using paint, and producing detailed leaf rubbings. They will be encouraged to describe what they observe using vocabulary such as crunchy, bumpy, and smooth, and to explore how mixing paints can create lighter and darker shades.

Alongside this, the children will discuss appropriate clothing for keeping warm in autumn, learn key Autumn-themed Makaton signs, and enjoy sharing an autumn poem together.

To enrich our learning further, we will also explore seasonal celebrations such as Halloween and Bonfire Night, helping the children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
