Term 3:2 direction for learning 2021

During this terms direction for learning, our focus has been animals

The children have particularly enjoyed investigating the texts; Dear Zoo, Old McDonald and Farmyard Jambori.

We recreated our own farmyard with hay, small world farm animals, track and tractors for the children to explore and we even had a special visit from Yessika the chicken who spent the day with the children whilst they learnt all about her and how to care for her.

We made our own edible mud with the aim to help to support the chldren in tolerating and manipulating malleable substances. Pressing their fingers into pliable material and using a pincer grup to succesfully manipulate a range of appropriate resources such as scoops and spoons.

During our sensory cooking sessions this term we have been able to make savory animal biscuits, our own fresh bread and also some barley soup using lots of root vegetables (from our own veg patch) that you might find on a farm! Our sensory cooking sessions encourage the children to investigate materials, food and edible substances using all of their senses. They are further supported to count and measure quantities, pour from jugs and bowls and manipulate tools such as mixing spoons and whisks.
