World Religion Month
This term we have been celebrating World Religion Month and Sunshine room focused on Buddhism. We spent a week exploring different aspects of the religion. From festivals to food to the important practice of meditation.
Buddhists follow a vegetarian diet so we made and ate Tibetan Noodle Soup. It was a sensory cooking experience as we smelt the different herbs and spices and explored frozen spinach, then we mixed and kneaded the flour and water to make the noodles. Here is the recipe for you to make at home https://tnp.org/recipe-for-tibetan-noodle-soup-thenthuk/.
The children explored flowers in the water tray as flowers are a very important part of Buddhist tradition and festivals as different flowers have different meanings from perseverance, respect, wisdom and discipline.
Finally we have been practicing mindfulness as part of our nursery routine but this week it was even more important as mindfulness and meditation is an important part of Buddhism, For Buddhists, meditation is a means of heightened awareness. Meditation helps people cultivate the awareness of their dreams, goals, and self-identities and the means to engage in good karma.
