Term 2.1 Chinese New Year

Lesson: EYFS

Class: Garden Room Year: 2021 - 2022

Chinese New Year celebrations have taken place recently in Garden Room. As it’s the Year of the Tiger, some of the children in Blue Group looked at images and then worked together to paint an amazing picture of a tiger.

The classroom has been decorated with our own hand painted Chinese lanterns and Emma P’s group created a piece of artwork inspired by images of Chinese blossom.

Our focus story was ‘The Great Race’ and Yellow Group created a display of animals depicted in the Chinese Zodiac and had a try at writing the corresponding Chinese number symbols.

All of the children worked collaboratively to produce a Chinese dragon and after listening to some Chinese music, they enjoyed a dance session using ribbons and scarves, and of course, our magnificent dragons head!

To round off a fabulous week, we held a Chinese banquet. Everyone made their own vegetable spring rolls, which they ate with prawn crackers, special fried rice and fortune cookies. Some children were lucky enough to visit Mr Lau’s Chinese restaurant, where they tried a variety of Chinese dishes and even attempted to eat their food with chopsticks!

We have been chosen to display a selection of our wonderful artwork at the library within Orford Jubilee Hub - why not pop along to see some of our fantastic creations?
