Exploratory Cooking: 1 potato, 2 potato, 3 potato, 4!
This term we have focused on Potatoes for our cooking focus, we have baked, mashed, boiled and planted potatoes. We have chosen to focus on one specific fruit or vegetable each term to learn all about where it came from, the different ways they can be cooked and how to handle and prepare it for cooking and eating. This has had a huge impact on the childrens learning as each week there confidence has grown as they become experts in all things potato. The children have cooked, chips, roast potatoes, mash potatoes and jacket potatoes, they have learnt how to peel, chop and mash potatoes and have watched as the potatoe changes from a hard not very tasty raw potato to a soft, fluffy and delicious snack. The children have enjoyed the process of cooking and then eating their culinary delights at snack time! Many of the chidren have enjoyed recreating their learning at home with their families and have had lots of fun being Sandy Lane Chefs.
