March - Holi

Throughout March we celebrated Holi- a Hindu festival  which originates in India. Holi is known by many other names including the Festival of Love, Festival of colours and Festival of Spring.

The children in Rainbow Room created their very own natural Gulal powder; which is the brightly coloured powder paint typically used during this festival. They used natural resources such as beetroot and turmeric to create the different colours, combining them with water before sieving them and letting them dry out. Once dry, they used muslin material to create multi-coloured print transfers.

Sunshine Room embraced Holi by hosting their very own colour run in forest school! The children had to search the forest for a variety of coloured flags and once they reached each destination they were immersed in an explosion of brightly coloured powder paints. They also participated in Ghungroo which is a traditional style of Indian bell dancing- some children enjoyed dressing up in sarees and wearing bindis on their forehead whilst celebrating!
